This is Bijou...my pal, confidant, therapist and MSD- Mighty Ship's Dog!!

Bijou is a 4 year old Australian Herd Dog -
AKA Australian Blue Heeler; Queensland Blue, and now Texas Pelican Dog.
(Her favorite pastime is to chase Pelicans and seagulls!)

I took this poor dog away from her own 10 acres on a river.  She had never even had a leash on. She was lean and mean from swimming every day. I then put her into the car and set her down in the middle of the desert!  She had no water to play in.  Then she was confined to a postage-stamp lot and chained. But we would walk in the mountains twice a day and she could chase critters!  Then I moved her to Texas!!  At least now she can play in the water!  She loves the water and seems to enjoy sailing.  When the boat heels over, she just digs in and hangs on!!  Several times, I thought she was going over the side in pursuit of pelicans!! 

This dog still loves me!!  It's amazing!

Guess I'll toss in here how she got her name.  Before I got her, I was watching an old John Wayne/Marlena Dietrich movie "Seven Sinners".  Marlena played a 'boat wench' named Bijou. I enjoyed that movie so much and the character she played.  I just decided that the next dog I got, I would name her Bijou!!  Shortly thereafter, I found this funny-looking little pup!  She was 5 weeks old when I brought her to watch over me!  She has been a fine companion and is a very smart dog. But I can't seem to teach her to climb a ladder to board the boat!!!
