I had to add a new page about the boat today!!
I talked to Chuck Baker - one of the men who built my boat. What a 'salty' ole' codger he is!! I would love to be able to sit down with Chuck with a tape recorder and capture the stories he has to tell about my OOPS! When Chuck had the boat, it was called "Tweeter Too"
Chuck took just a couple of minutes to tell me about some of the trips he took on the boat! He promised to come by the boat and answer some questions I have about some water tanks, and when he does, I'm going to try to corner him and get him to talking!! Then I'll preserve the stories on this site!! I may even laminate them on the doors to the 'head' so any future owners will have the history!!
Briefly, Chuck said that the boat was started in 1992, finished in 1995 and they had sailed this boat to Belize "2 or 3 times'; through 'the canal' and over to the Canaries. He said that he would never be afraid to sail this boat anyplace!!
He was also the ONLY person who didn't encourage me to sit out the hurricane season. "If you want to sail - SAIL!! That little boat will stand up to anything! You want to go to Bahamas? GO! That's what she was built for! "
He also said that everything on her was hand-crafted! That, of course, is obvious when you look at the helm wheel, the portholes and all the brass fittings! Even the door pulls in the galley are anchors they cut themselves! These touches are what makes this little boat so unique! It's not a "cold production boat' - it's a loving work of art!
Chuck also told of how they would take 'garage sale' items to the islands, trade for sandals, bring them back to the states and sell them! The first trip paid for the boat!
